The perfect day trip to Rylstone

Keen to see what lies beyond the Mudgee region? We recommend a day trip to Rylstone & Kandos. Brimming with heritage charm, quirky shops & eateries & breathtaking natural surrounds, a visit to Rylstone & Kandos is a must on your Mudgee to-do list.

Here’s our picks for your Rylstone/Kandos visit…

Grab some delicious yum cha

Located in a historic sandstone inn, 29 Nine 99 yum cha is the perfect spot for a long lunch. Serving authentic Chinese yum cha, the menu features more than 30 dumplings & several tea options. Inside, the walls are decorated with original artworks & assorted traditional Chinese goods. We recommend you book in advance, as it’s a local & visitor favourite!

Sample some award-winning wine

Nestled in the heart of a valley, De Beaurepaire Wines is a true gem. Producing elegant & balanced wines, De Beaurepaire is  an exceptional location to drink & relax. Try one of their private cellar door experiences, where you can sample from 17 wines crafted in house. Plenty of space for the kids to play too!

Shop in charming boutiques

Stroll along Rylstone’s main street & peruse the range of quirky shops. We love Folkologie - it's a one-stop shop for all things furniture, hardware & gifts. Discover a vast collection of carefully selected pieces - a great excuse to shop local too!

Stop into Kandos Museum

Kandos Museum is the heart of the town’s industrial & social history. It houses a collection of stories, objects & photographs, detailing the small town’s history. Powered by volunteers, the museum has a welcoming feel, offering impromptu guided tours & new exhibitions.

Traipse through Ferntree Gully

Looking for a peaceful bush walk? A 20-minute drive from Rylstone, Ferntree Gully is a stunning rainforest area, hosting several walking tracks. Tracks can take you down into the fern-tree studded floor, or on top of rocks with stunning valley views. Keep an eye out for wildlife including lyrebirds, wombats & kangaroos.

And of course, if the water calls to you, don’t miss the chance to kayak down Ganguddy (Dunns Swamp) to be surrounded by stunning scenes in nature. Say hello to our friends at Southern Cross Kayaking for kayak tours & hire too…
