Stay

History buffs will love Lauralla - a lovingly restored Victorian homestead. Located in the heart of Mudgee CBD, this Federation home combines old-world charm with contemporary convenience. We love the original ornamental fireplaces, the high ceilings and stained glass windows, and the gorgeous gardens - history abounds at Lauralla.

Do

Take a day trip to Gulgong - this historic gold mining town and birthplace of Henry Lawson is a national treasure. Explore the beautifully preserved streets, lined with heritage-listed buildings, then take in the huge Australiana and Gold Rush collection at the Gulgong Pioneers Museum. Try your hand at gold panning at the Gulgong Gold Experience, or view the heritage-listed photo exhibition at the Gulgong Holtermann Museum.

The Drip Gorge - the place to explore the region’s rich Indigenous history. Head just past the Drip to visit Hands on Rock - an important Aboriginal rock art site.

Stroll along Mudgee’s main streets & take in the historic buildings. Our picks: St Mary’s Catholic Church (one of the oldest standing buildings in Mudgee) Mudgee Post Office (one of the first country post offices in the state), Robertson Park (Mudgee’s first marketplace), DLH Solicitors’ building and the Town Hall, which has been classified by the National Trust. Art deco lovers will also enjoy the facade of Mudgee’s Regent Theatre - it is gorgeous! Don’t forget to take a stroll past the newly installed Louisa Lawson statue - a tribute to Henry Lawson’s mother.

Brush up on your history with Mudgee Heritage Walking Tours - take a guided walking tour around Mudgee CBD and learn about its heritage. Tours run every Saturday and Sunday.

Get back to nature at Wollemi National Park - the area has held significance for the local Indigenous people for at least 12,000 years. Take in the beautiful scenic walks, swimming & canoeing.
